![]() Of course good players are those that build their own ships. ![]() Maybe it won't last forever, but it has lasted a long time. ![]() I think the advantage of surprising a player with something they're not sure how to counter or don't have the tools against is still very strong. The best players are inventive and use things we've never seen before. I honestly expected the same as you, that they would converge towards a set of top ship designs. This game has been played at a much higher level by really skilled players for long before the steam release. If we wanted to limit copying, we'd just remove the copying function and make people do it manually You learn it's not as strong as you thought, there are counters, and you move on to other strategies with the tools in your arsenal having increased. So you copy the strategy that seems so strong, and you learn by BEING countered, how to counter that strategy when other people use it. If you encounter a brand new unit or strategy in a game, especially if it feels OP and you have no idea how to beat it, the best thing you can do is try it yourself. Being able to 'read' the enemy ship is very important, which is why our graphical style is crisp and clear. This is really hard to learn in Istrolid, because a units 'role' is not clear, units can do anything. When you see an enemy unit in an strategy game, you should be able to look at it and with the sufficient knowledge of the game, know the strategy or counter you need to adopt to beat it.
